Following a lot of thought and contributions from pupils a proposal is written and submitted on the 10th February 2006 to make Bushloe an Eco School.
20th February: Bushloe registers with the Eco Schools scheme.
End of February: First Eco Club meeting held, over 70 pupils sign up to one of seven groups.
March 2nd: First meeting of the Action Team to explain the process.
March: Various Eco Clubs meet. (see club pages for details)
March: A large Eco Schools display is developed in the Humanities area.
March 15th: Second meeting of the Action Team. Survey Team join them to carry out an environmental survey of the school (carried out over two lunchtimes). Web pages started.
April/May: A number of Eco teams meet, Eco Club work and issues mentioned in various assemblies and newsletter. Work is done to find external partners in the community.
June: A basic action plan is agreed upon. The first project will be Recycling, the work of the Eco Club is highlighted in the making of the new school launch video, work begins on the pupil led video documenting the school journey towards becoming more environmentally sustainable.
First milestone reached: Enough has been done for bronze award status, planning work starts on recycling scheme, fund raising ideas and on increasing involvement in the development of the new school grounds.
Schedule for Autumn term to include developing the Eco Code, continuing Eco Clubs to start carrying out the first major project and hopefully an application for the Eco Schools Silver Award.
